Acupuncture
With Liz D’Arcy- Evans RGN, Member of British Medical Acupuncture Society

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient therapeutic technique used around the world for at least 3000 years for relieving symptoms, curing disease and promoting good health.

It involves piercing the skin with very fine metal needles at specific points on the body to promote the flow of vital energy known as Qi, along channels called meridians to restore health.

Acupuncture is a complementary therapy that is recognised by many doctors and healthcare professionals.

It is not used for diagnosing disease.

What can Acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee, low back pain and shoulder pain.

It is also effective at treating chronic headache and migraine, nausea, mild depression and many other conditions.

Ear acupuncture is used to treat addictions including smoking. Acupuncture can also be used to maintain good health.

Is it painful?
Acupuncturists use extremely fine needles, which are virtually painless. Most people receiving acupuncture find it very relaxing.

"The first sessions can only be described as truly relaxing, which may seem an odd way to describe having needles stuck in you. But the needles are incredibly thin, and with painstakingly careful insertion, only occasionally caused minor discomfort. Yet the discomfort was less a feeling of pain and more just an odd sensation".

Consultations will initially take 45 minutes and 30 minutes thereafter.
