By Dr Richard Angwin
I have written before about TRT and can report that it has become an increasingly popular option for those unwilling to accept that once past the age of 30 in men, and around the menopause in women, falling testosterone levels may result in a decline in energy, drive and sense of well-being. Other symptoms caused by a low testosterone include musculo-skeletal aches and pains, muscle wasting, loss of stamina, weight gain, night sweats, low mood, irritability, declining sexual ability and desire, and osteoporosis.
During my time at The WellMan Clinic in London I had many patients who found that their productivity and effectiveness was considerably enhanced by TRT.
At DOCTORnow we are offering testosterone implants as an alternative to injections or daily skin applications in those suitable for TRT. The main advantages of implants are:
- Convenience - Only two implants are required a year.
- Improved delivery of testosterone - The levels of testosterone in the blood reach a plateau after 4-8 weeks and a high peak level is not necessary in order to obtain a long duration of action.
The disadvantage is that each implant requires a minor procedure under local anaesthetic. The procedure itself lasts about five minutes and is, in my opinion, much less unpleasant than going to the dentist.
